In a bid to raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK, Dave Clarke, Chief Technology Officer at Smart Choice Metering, is taking on an incredible feat for World Alzheimer’s Month by hiking 200 miles by the end of October.
One in three people born today will go on to develop dementia in their lifetime, so Dave is taking part in the ARUK Explorer virtual hike, along with hundreds of others across the UK, to raise crucial funds in support of dementia research.
So far, Dave has raised an outstanding £584 and has hiked 55 miles, with another 145 to go before the end of October. And he’s really stepping up to the challenge, by hiking between 15 to 20 miles at a time while carrying a backpack weighing 40lb!
“I decided to support Alzheimer’s Research UK because many of my friends’ parents have suffered with dementia, and I’ve seen the impact on their lives that palliative care brings,” said Dave.
“Now, more than ever, dementia research needs our support, so I’m doing what I love for a well-deserved cause in the beautiful British countryside.”
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Backed by their passionate scientists and supporters, they’re challenging the way people think about dementia, uniting the big thinkers in the field and funding the innovative science that will deliver a cure.
Their mission is to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025, and everyone taking part in the ARUK Virtual Explorer, whether it’s through hiking or sponsoring, is helping fund the pioneering research to help make Alzheimer’s Research UK reach their mission.
